WORKING AT PÖYRY

Our People

Our competitive difference in the marketplace has always been the quality of our people. We know that we invest more effort, time and diligence in the professional development of our staff than our competitors do. Our employees tell us so.

We make the move overseas for you and your family a trouble-free process by guiding you through the relocation process and helping and advising at every single step. This will include aspects such as visa and work permit applications and will also make sure that family matters such as housing and schooling meets your needs.

Meet some Pöyry People

Steve Gough
President of Calgary Operations
"The Pöyry Energy expansion into the Canadian and specifically Albertan market, is a very exciting and strategically important move for the company. When asked to take up the position of President of the new operation, I was delighted to accept this fantastic challenge not just for me, but also for my wife and two young children who will be embarking on a new life adventure. Having been involved in a number of overseas new start operations for IGL (who were acquired by Pöyry in 2006), I had a good understanding of the tasks that I would require to undertake and what is needed to build a successful operation.

My aspirations for the company is for us to quickly make our mark and to demonstrate to the market our expertise in front end engineering studies and operations support. We will have particular emphasis on what we see as an underserviced market of operations support for in-situ thermal recovery projects, especially SAGD, where we will apply our heavy oil and operations support expertise, processes and systems.

I am hoping to build strong relationships with clients both existing, in terms of our Canadian clients whom we work for across the globe and new. I am also excited by the opportunity to offer Pöyry employees, existing and new, Canadian and overseas, a fantastic opportunity to develop their careers in one of the most desirable countries and cities to live in the world, whilst working for an ambitious company, performing interesting and challenging work.

I look forward to working with Pöyry’s clients and employees in my new home in Calgary."

Craig
Operations Manager
“I have spent the last 11 years of my 15 year working life within the IGL/Pöyry organisation. I have been part of IGL’s growth from 12 employees based in Aberdeen to over 100 based in our four continents with offices in Aberdeen - Scotland, Perth -Australia, Stavanger – Norway and Kuala Lumpur – Malysia. After being part of the company’s new start operations in Perth and Stavanger, my next challenge is to take up the senior role of Operations Manager in Calgary.

On a personal level, I’m looking forward to the challenge of establishing myself in a new environment, to see more of North America and to grow as a person and possibly even as a family. What I am particularly looking forward to is the multitude of outdoor opportunities afforded by being so close to the Rocky Mountains.”

Cathy
Principal Process Engineer
"I have worked for IGL/Pöyry for 10 years after joining on graduation. My experience ranges from offshore-based rotations providing operations support to pre-sanction development support for new fields and commissioning of new equipment.

In 2001, I spent a year in Norway assisting with the start up of the new Stavanger office. In addition to helping build up the company client base I was also able to take advantage of the snow and learnt to ski: something I hope to continue in Canada. I’m looking forward to a new and different industry with its own challenges and environment."

Saqib
Technical Application Developer/Process Engineer
"I currently work within the software development team for Pöyry Energy (Aberdeen). The work is highly specialised and integrates core process engineering with a variety of in-house software applications. Working for Pöyry Energy has given me plenty of opportunities to develop my engineering experience and mature my software development.

I’m looking forward to the opportunities that Pöyry Energy (Calgary) will represent. Looking forward, I hope to enjoy a new working environment bringing with it understanding of new engineering problems. I am also looking forward to the challenges that represents and hope to be able to offer my software expertise for novel solutions to engineering problems."
